Cherryhomes Trust Annual General Meeting
1 May 2019

We were delighted to hold our Annual General Meeting and Reunion at Melbourn United Reformed Church Hall on Wednesday 1st May 2019. It was good to see some of our "Sponsored Members" together with friends and others who support the charity in different ways. Our Chairman's Report (click here to download) summarises the activity during the past year.
We were also delighted to be able to welcome Dr Joanna Byers as our speaker for the evening who gave us a most interesting talk on "Social Prescribing" which is a developing practice whereby people visiting their doctor (or more likely these days their Medical Practice) will benefit from a more holistic approach rather than just a clinical intervention. As usual, the evening concluded with light refreshments and a time to catch up with old (and make new) friends.

Musical Evening: 'A Night at the Opera'
27 April 2019

We were privileged to welcome back on their second visit to us the Montagnana Trio comprising three internationally renowned musicians (see picture): Emma Hanlan (flute), Kate Elmitt (piano) and Catherine Wilmers (cello). The Trio presented an exciting programme of Operatic music including the fabulous virtuoso Carmen Fantasy by Bizet-Borne, excerpts from Mozart's Don Giovanni and Tschaikovsky Eugene Onegin as well as Variations by Beethoven on a theme from Mozart's Magic Flute and Entr'Acte from HMS Pinafore.
We are grateful to the Elders and Members of Melbourn URC for allowing us free use of their lovely facilities.
Preceded by drinks and canapés and with a hot supper served in the Hall at the conclusion of the programme, the evening raised a wonderful total of over £1,400 to help with our work.

Cherryhomes Trust Annual General Meeting
15 March 2018

We were delighted to hold our Annual General Meeting and Reunion at Melbourn United Reformed Church Hall. Although this was a late substitution from the originally planned venue, it proved to be a most suitable alternative and may well become our regular venue. Despite any difficulties in locating a new venue in the dark, it was good to see many of our "Sponsored Members" together with friends and others who support the charity in different ways. Our Chairman's Report (click here to download) summarises the activity during the past year.
We were also delighted to be able to welcome Sarah Charlton and Tracey Demartino from Aurora Meldreth Manor School as our guest speakers. The School primarily supports young people between 6 and 19 years of age who have highly complex learning and physical difficulties but, as we heard, is now able to continue support into early adulthood. Sarah, an Occupational Therapist and Tracey, an Adult Skills Tutor gave a moving account of their work. As usual, the evening concluded with light refreshments and a time to catch up with old (and make new) friends.

28 April 2017

We were privileged to welcome three internationally renowned musicians (see picture): Emma Hanlan (flute), Kate Elmitt (piano) and Catherine Wilmers (cello) who, as the Montagnana Trio, delighted the audience in Melbourn's United Reformed Church with an entertainingly varied programme of music from composers dating from the 18th century to the current day. We are grateful to the Elders and Members of Melbourn URC for allowing us free use of their lovely facilities. Preceded by drinks and canapés and with a hot supper served in the Hall at the conclusion of the programme, the evening raised a wonderful total of £1,895 to help with our work.

Cherryhomes Trust Annual General Meeting
14 April 2016, 7.30pm

This was held at Arthur Rank House, Brookfields Hospital, Mill Road, Cambridge CB1 3DF. We were delighted to welcome many of our "Sponsored Members" together with others who support the Charity in different ways on a very wet evening which, sadly, caused some to have to cancel their attendance at the last moment as they couldn't get out of their drive! We were most fortunate to have, as our guest speaker for the evening, Dr John Hedges (a local G.P.) who addressed the question "Why do we need health and social care charities in a Welfare State?" It was a most interesting perspective and concluded that, amongst other reasons, the health benefit of "wellbeing" generated for both giver and receiver is significant and being both small, in comparison to bodies like the NHS, and local allows such charities to act and react more swiftly and appropriately to service the need. Our Chairman's Report (click here to download) summarises the activity during the past year.

This was held at Arthur Rank House, Brookfields Hospital, Mill Road, Cambridge CB1 3DF.
It was good to see many of our "Sponsored Members" with us together with some of those who continue to support the Charity in many different ways. Our Chairman's Report (click here to download) summarises the activity during the past year. This year, we were delighted to have Kim Clark with us, to share her knowledge. Kim manages the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. She presented and explained the services they provide and engaged in a lively Q & A session at the end. As is our custom, the evening was rounded off with light refreshments and a glass of wine or fruit juice.
